Akron, OH, November 15, 2023––The Salvation Army has a way to help shift your family’s focus from consumerism to Christmas with a special “Salvation Army Kids Day at the Kettle” Friday, November 24, 2023.
“We’re renaming Black Friday The Salvation Army Kids Day at the Kettle where children and their families ring the bells at the Red Kettle to help those who are less fortunate. It can be your family’s new Christmas tradition and a way to bring joy to others,” said Captain Anita Albert-Watson, area coordinator for The Salvation Army in Summit County.
Created to help avoid the stress, debt and rush of consumerism and teach children the joy of giving back, Kids Day at the Kettle will be held at two Walmart locations in Summit County. “You don’t even have to drive far, with Walmart stores in Fairlawn and Stow participating,” said Watson.
Families are encouraged to dress creatively in their Santa hats and reindeer antlers—even their Grinch costumes--and ring the bell to help raise funds for families in need.
“As the crush of consumerism overshadows the real meaning of Christmas, families are looking for ways to create holiday traditions that are both meaningful and simple. It’s easy to help make the holiday season bright for others by supporting the life-changing programs of The Salvation Army,” said Watson.
