The Salvation Army Barberton honors National Donut Day and launches New Community Campaign

Jun 4, 2026

Barberton, OH (June 5th, 2026) – The Salvation Army in Barberton, OH, is celebrating National Donut Day in an extra sweet way. National Donut Day was founded by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the bravery of The Salvation Army’s Donut Lassies, women who stood shoulder to shoulder with soldiers on the front lines during World War I, providing them with a taste of home and a much-needed morale boost. The Salvation Army in Barberton, OH, will partner with Krispy Kreme store #325 in Akron, OH, to support local events throughout the area.

“Today is not only a day for us to honor The Salvation Army’s past legacies, but also a day for our organization to launch a new initiative to continue supporting those in our future. “Give a little, Change a lot” focuses on how it does not take much to make a difference. Now through July 31st, all online donations will be matched up to $1,000,” stated Envoy Kris Lackey, Commanding Corps Officer of The Salvation Army in Barberton, OH.

To kick off the campaign, the National Association of Letter Carriers will make a $3,000 donation. The Salvation Army will have its canteen at their location to provide coffee and donuts to all the local letter carriers before they start their daily routes. Additionally, The Salvation Army will be at their Corps location, 560 Wooster Road West in Barberton, distributing donuts from 8:30 am to 10 am, while supplies last.

The Salvation Army in Barberton, OH has been supporting local neighbors and the community for over 100 years by providing groceries and hot meals, keeping the heat and lights on, shower and laundry programs, worship services, summer camp, senior programs, and community ministries to help those in need during times of darkness. The long-standing partnership with the National Association of Letter Carriers has continued to help The Salvation Army support local neighbors. This year alone, their donation of 1,682 food items has impacted hundreds of families in Barberton, OH.

“Our mission is to act in the spirit of the Donut Lassies and bring that much-needed morale boost to those in our community who have never had to ask for help before. With this campaign, your donations will support these individuals, showing that their neighbors care about their success,” continued Envoy Lackey.
