The Salvation Army in Northeast Ohio Announces New Divisional Leadership
Cleveland, Ohio – (July 12th, 2023): The Salvation Army’s Northeast Ohio Divisional Headquarters, located at 2507 E. 22nd St. in Cleveland, is excited to announce the arrival of Major Edgar George Jr. as their new Divisional Commander and Major Barbara George as their new Divisional Director of Women’s Ministries. As Divisional Commander, Major Edgar will provide leadership and oversight in the overall operations and policies for The Salvation Army’s corps community centers, which provide social services to individuals and families in need. These 35 corps centers, spread across 36 counties in Northeast and Northwest Ohio, also include onsite Sunday worship services and spiritual and social services programs. As Divisional Director of Women’s Ministries, Major Barbara will oversee all programming, ministries, and social services for the Northeast and Northwest Ohio area.

Foster growth and development, support and uplift those most in need, and evangelize the works of Jesus Christ,” stated Major Edgar George Jr., Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army of Northeast Ohio.
Majors George come to The Salvation Army’s Northeast Ohio Divisional Headquarters after serving previously as:
- General Secretary & Program Secretary (respectively) in The Salvation Army’s Eastern Pennsylvania/Delaware Division
- The Salvation Army Kroc Center Liaisons in the Massachusetts Division
- Corps Officers for 17 years in various divisions.
“During my first appointment in 1989 as a new Corps Officer, I was responsible for a $2M capital campaign for New Brunswick, NJ. This campaign shaped my career as an officer and leader. I learned the importance of community support, evangelism, and fundraising and how they can work together to help those most in need. It was now an incredibly rewarding experience,” stated Major Edgar.
Majors Edgar and Barbara George met at The Salvation Army Officers Training College in 1987 but did not start dating until 1989. They married in 1991 and had four children: Eddie, Sarah, John, and Nicholas. They also have two grandchildren: Lydia and Charlie.
Major Edgar has a master’s degree in counseling from Cambridge College (MA), while Major Barbara is pursuing a master’s degree in Humanitarian and Disaster Leadership from Wheaton College (IL).
“Growing up, my mother taught me three things. (1) Do everything with kindness. (2) Give back (3) Make a decision with Jesus. These guided me to the path of officership in The Salvation Army and will continue to support me and my husband. As we embrace these new positions in Northeast and Northwest Ohio,” stated Major Barbara George, Divisional Director of Women’s Ministries for The Salvation Army in Northeast Ohio.
