Are monetary donations tax deductible?

Yes, your monetary donation to The Salvation Army is tax deductible. You can receive a tax deduction for donations of cash or property made to The Salvation Army.

Once your donation is successfully completed, we will send you an email donation receipt as your official record. To claim your deduction, you must itemize deductions on your federal income tax return and provide a receipt from The Salvation Army that includes the amount of the donation and a statement that no goods or services were provided in exchange for the donation.

How can I be sure my donation will help my local community?

When you make a donation, we look at the ZIP code of your billing address. That ZIP code determines which Salvation Army location actually receives your funds. This is how we can assure you that when you give, your gift supports your local community.

If you would like to donate goods, you can drop them off at the nearest Salvation Army location or arrange for a pickup. Finally, if you would like to volunteer your time, contact your local Salvation Army learn more about available opportunities.

What percentage of donations goes to the cause?

The Salvation Army is committed to using donations wisely and efficiently. Approximately 82 percent of all donations received by The Salvation Army go directly to programs that help people in need. This includes providing food, shelter, and other essential services to our brothers and sisters in need. The remaining 18 percent is used for administrative costs, fundraising efforts, and other overhead expenses.
