Food: Programs and Services
The Salvation Army provides programs to address hunger in our community. Intake and assessment for this program will also provide referrals to other social services within The Salvation Army and throughout the community. The Salvation Army provides hot meals year-round for anyone in need. Free evening meals are available at various locations. Please contact your local Salvation Army for specific information on times and locations.
Salvation Army food pantries provide groceries for families and individuals in need. Food is free, but some locations require appointments, all others are on a walk-in first come first serve basis.
Food Pantry
Located in each of its neighborhood Community Corps Centers, The Salvation Army operates six pantry programs which provide a three day supply of non-perishable food to hungry individuals and families.
There are five corps social service sites within Greater Cleveland area services: Temple Corps, East Cleveland Corps, Miles Park Corps, Ohio City Corps, and West Park Corps.
Hot Meal Program
The Hot Meal Program provides a hot lunchtime meal to hungry individuals and families at various times during the month. Hot Meal Programs are located at East Cleveland Corps, Miles Park Corps, and Ohio City Corps.
Soup Kitchens
Soup Kitchens are open the last five days of the month at East Cleveland Corps, and Miles Park Corps. Soup Kitchen operates every Wednesday at Ohio City Corps.
The Mobile Canteen
The Mobile Canteen, a feeding program on wheels which feeds people who are hungry and often homeless in Cleveland and East Cleveland. Staffed primarily by community volunteers, with supervision by The Salvation Army, the canteen goes out Monday thru Friday in the mornings, and Sunday thru Friday in the evenings.
Most of the persons who seek assistance from the canteen consist primarily of families. These families are the working poor who cannot afford to buy food on a regular basis for themselves or their children. Others that are helped by the canteen are the homeless, elderly, and mental health patients who are on the streets. Given the availability, blankets, warm clothing and gloves are also provided to those in need.
